Keeping Your Cat Entertained

Have you ever noticed your kitty playing with something that isn’t *supposed* to be a cat toy, like the top of a milk gallon jug, or a rubber band? Cats are very playful, and can get bored and restless with nothing to do. Keeping Fluffy properly entertained is very important! Read on as a McClain County, OK vet offers some tips on keeping your kitty amused.

Toys

Make sure your furry pal has lots of fun toys to play with. Kitties all have their own preferences when it comes to playthings, so give Fluffy a variety to pick from. Classic cat toys, like catnip mice, are always a big hit with our feline friends, but you can also offer your pet more modern toys, like robotic mice or automated laser pointers. You can even download apps for your cat to play on your phone or tablet!

Window View

Kitties love to watch birds and squirrels and daydream about hunting. Offer Fluffy a comfy window seat, so she can sunbathe, spy on neighborhood wildlife, and look pleased with herself.

Furniture

Cats love to explore nooks and crannies. Get Fluffy some kitty furniture that encourages healthy activities, like climbing, jumping, and, of course, supervising her humans. A cat tower is a great option for this! You’ll also want to make sure your furball has a suitable scratching post or board, so she can do her nails.

Kitty Garden

We recommend that cats live indoors. Fluffy will be much safer staying inside, where she isn’t exposed to the dangers posed by vehicles, weather, and other animals. That said, there’s no reason your pet can’t enjoy the best of both worlds. Make a kitty garden for your furball, so she can peek out from behind green leaves and nibble on safe plants. Catnip is of course a great choice, but you can find more pet-safe plants online at the ASPCA website.

Playtime

As far as Fluffy is concerned, the best cat toy around may just be you! Take time to play with your pet every day. This will help get your kitty active and moving, and will also provide her with beneficial mental stimulation. Plus, it will be fun for you, too!
